ELS #Energy - Deployment of renewables boosted amid energy crisis

Last week, EU foreign affairs focused on hydrogen both at COP27 and in the US, while worries about an exodus of European companies kept increasing.

This week, Members of the Energy Committee at the European Parliament have backed the amendments to the RED III proposal shortening the maximum period to approve new installations in the so-called “renewables acceleration areas” from twelve to nine months. In the case there is no response from the competent authority by the deadline, the permit will be deemed to be approved. Although there are still many steps left in the legislation process, the approval sheds light on the establishment of permanent faster permit processes, boosting the deployment of renewables amid an energy crisis.

Week ahead, ELS Analysis keeps its eyes on the upcoming extraordinary meeting of the Energy Council, expected to decide on gas market intervention.
