ELS #Energy - The “high energy prices” neverending story

Last week, Commissioner Kadri Simson kept supporting voluntary price reductions through negotiations with gas-exporting countries and joint purchases of gas as opposed to an EU-level price cap.

This week, as expected, the Commission unveiled its alternative proposal of a joint gas purchase with a detailed two-step approach to make it happen in spite of the regulatory complications, a plan thought to give more leverage to the EU.

Week ahead, ELS Analysis keeps its eyes on the still ongoing debate regarding gas price capping, the Council’s debate on the proposal on common internal market rules for renewable hydrogen and the Commission’s plan for a long-term electricity market reform.
